Adventure Discover in a different Manner

This is my first post for the Daily Post Discover challenge, which is here :  Daily Post Weekly Discover Challenge.  They take a blog post on discover ( Find this on the upper left of your menu in your reader. ) and use one chosen off that link for a theme.

This week the theme is ” Adventure.” They chose a great blog to “play off of” on hiking “adventures” ( If you like outdoors or hiking, in general, go check it out.) Maps, beautiful pictures and posts on stuff needed for hiking and more. The link above will take you there by way of this Daily Post.

I haven’t been hiking for a few years and feel really bummed. It is not my top hobby or sport like it is for them, but I used to do it for exercise a few times a year. Needless to say, busy life has gotten in the way. Once and awhile I schedule it and something always comes up. What a great motivator and reminder this blog is.

But every day can be an adventure for me.

It’s an adventure to come with ways to use items in the crafts I love to do:

    New Tan 100%

Using up things like these into something new. I am really into recycling or maybe it is called up-cycling?

    New Tan 100%

    Or These Buttons.

    New Tan 100%

    Bowling Pin Necklaces?

    I Bring The “Beach” Inside

I thought I would join in this week with something I haven’t participated in for awhile, The Word Press Daily Prompt.  Besides, I love the theme of “Beach” ………

    Daily Prompt On Word Press

It has been years since I went to any ocean beach. I had relatives when I was young that lived in the coolest town named Mukilteo.

    muk beach

The place is close by Everette, Washington State. These were my Pacific Ocean Days.

I lived In Florida- Pensacola for several years. Those were My “Atlantic Ocean” Days. Which ocean do you prefer? I actually like the wild Pacific, but then when you are a kid it just seems a tad more magical, so I may be biased because of age.

Now I am so far away from those beaches in Missouri.

There are some nice shorelines around other water bodies here, but I miss the ocean trips.

So I came up with an idea to correct in my own home, the ocean:

    SUNP0136

Wood and Rock Sailboat on beach wall art.

I love this. Absolutely love this. I’m an ocean person too. Have lived near to the Atlantic all my life (NYC and Miami). I’m in the process of moving to Jacksonville. I visited the Pacific a few years ago when celebrating my then 90 year old aunt’s birthday. It is wild and magical. But, I have an attachment to the Atlantic Ocean.

I miss the beach, Nike. I never knew you lived in New York. My son was living in Stuart up the Atlantic coast for a couple years. Thanks for your comment.

Stuart is where the airport is, right? I know the general area. My brother lives in Duchess County. In fact, I’m going to visit him and his wife today.

        • blueribbonfair 7:28 pm on May 26, 2016 Permalink

My son is here visiting, but I will ask him. He flies a lot so it is probably there. He says it is ritzy and does not care for it, so he is moving. He works and drives cruise ships in the summer in Alaska. After that, he may move back where we are or where is older brother and family are still in Washington.

My son says they have an airport that the blue angels fly out of. He hasn’t ever flown out of there. Have a great weekend Nike.

I don’t know anything about the Blue Angels flying there, but it’s a modern airport.

Lovely post. I was born in a city that lies just next to the sea which meant a lot of beautiful beaches. Where I live right now, there is not even one. I miss going to the beach. Your idea just helped me.. now I can bring the beach at home to me ^_^
P.S. im an owl fan too.. ❤

Beautiful art to bring the beach into your home, reminded me of a full wall mural a friend did for me setting sand, shells and some seaweed into it. Altho I no longer live there many others have had the joy of that refreshing mural!

Surreal Chickens and Hot Glue Stencils

So what do the 2 things in my post have to do with each other?  Well, nothing really unless I get a chicken stencil made soon. I think I will want to do that next time I do some more of these:

My first try at hot glue stencils. Hearts and Christmas stuff to use to make cute cards for my shop @https://www.etsy.com/shop/DappledMoonEmporium?ref=ss_profile

My first try at hot glue stencils. Hearts and Christmas stuff to use to make cute cards for my shop @https://www.etsy.com/shop/DappledMoonEmporium?ref=ss_profile

111014 diy glue stamps and proof for listia 006

These are the ones that did not turn out so well, but can still be used though really not for what they were supposed to be.

So as I explained, I really would love to do one of these for a chicken. I also want to do some flowers. Maybe a mountain. They do not look the best, but I have watched other crafters use them on video and the art they did was really wonderful.

I just wanted to show everyone what I have been doing lately.

    Now, about that chicken.

So I wanted to share my glue crafting supplies I made myself, but just knew that when I saw this I had to share it somewhere:

I did not think this was real , but supposedly it is a totally black chicken. that has just been developed.

I did not think this was real , but supposedly it is a totally black chicken that has just been developed.

This would make the perfect Halloween chicken. I know we already passed Halloween by this year, but this is one creepy chicken breed. Pretty, but creepy.

What do you all think? Have you seen these?

What do you do with the hot glue stencils? Do you take them off the back and then use them as an outline when painting? Or do you use them as stamps and press them in ink? It’s a cool idea.

Brenda Davis Harshmam, I apologize so much for missing your comment. The holidays sent me awol on so much. I work full time now and just was off here for a couple months. I did not like that but with birthdays and those days, I just got very overwhelmed. I am now working less and have fit the blog back into my schedule.

Thanks for the question and hope you do not give up on me yet. I do exactly what you asked. Paint over or stamp. They was off well. I got the idea from https://thefrugalcrafter.wordpress.com/. I watch most of her videos. She has awesome ideas and tips in making stuff. I am not up to par with her, but learning and hopefully some day to be quick and as good at them as she is.

        • Brenda Davis Harsham 12:51 am on January 15, 2015 Permalink

No worries, I thought it was a cool idea, but I wondered if it really kept its shape when you picked it up. It was just an idle thought, though. I am hard at work trying to get a book published, and working full-time myself. I don’t have a second to get the ink pads out. I really should. My daughter won’t be young forever. Maybe you will inspire me. 🙂

    HANDMADE HYACINTH

IMG_20140411_2346551-290x290HANDMADE HYACINTH. This is on my docket this week;  I just moved into a cute 1 bedroom apartment I was waiting 4 months to open up. Needless to say, I need something fresh, bright and new for my lovely windowsill. It is always an excuse to make something handcrafted myself also.

My weekend wanderings are taking me to visiting “fresh pressed blogs” I discovered on my own, it being too hot now to venture forth outside.

I am thinking there are also other flower tutorials on this site. Enjoy these on the first actual days of summer.

Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge 2 Fit with My Monday Mood-ANIMALS-Chickens

Our pretty “Little Black Hen.” had her 3rd large hatch of chicks last week. We were also given 2 chicks old enough to leave their mom which stick together like glue and give me lots of laughs. So this week for the challenge; I am sharing my little chicken  farm.

    Pinterest FaIL-Sort of

AT Easter time I mentioned in a post that my kids and I did eggshell geodes. I posted a picture from Martha Stewart with how they are supposed to turn out.

-I now know I am not Martha. Have you ever seen the blog called something like that? I may have seen more than 1 of them. It is too bad such names are already taken. Anyway, they still are pretty, but not at all like the picture from her site. The colors are cheery and my mind is spinning with upcycle ideas to use them for, but on this depressive Monday here are the results prior to doing something else with them.

They are pretty shells as you can see. This is all of them as a collection.

This reminds me of a time I saw Martha on a show, and someone in the audience was like “I’ve tried what you are demonstrating and it really doesn’t look like yours” Martha’s response to that comment could not have been more condescending it was one of those moments where you really felt for the woman in the audience who probably will never buy a Martha branded thing again.

That is crazy. I know people like that. They take it as criticism against them when the person was just stating a fact. That is ridiculous. Makes me never want to support her either again. I got the idea from pinterest. I pin and never know where it comes from until I go to do it sometime. I do not do much from her like I used to since I do not have time. Just if it is a pin on Pinterest that leads me there. Thanks for the comment.

Mother's Day theme – Focus on DIY cards.

If you read my post from yesterday; I had yet to get my Mother’s day stuff ready.  Well, am rejoicing because what I finally decided to go with is in the mailbox as we speak.

I love cards since they are less expensive to mail then larger packages. And it is easy to add a gift card to the inside for the price you could have spent on shipping.

I have been doing home done cards for many holidays and occasions for quite some time.  And this is a quick tutorial of the ones I did today:

    Supplies plus toothpick.

card stock light green cut after folding in 1/2 lengthwise into 2 sections then folded into a card. (makes an odd size kind of, but is also stand out from norm. done this way. Plus save on paper which some may not need, but I am frugal that way!

I wrote happy mother’s day on the inside and signed.

For the envelope I am using beautiful art work my sign did in art last year. ( I take pictures so that a digital record is kept. This is a great way to use up art that is hard to store and keep.

Cut and wrap like flat presents. Add gift cards to cards first. lol. Address labels and postage. Takes 2 stamps to be safe. Weight is about 2 oz. MAIL......Fun and satisfaction....

I mail cards with envelopes like this a lot and it is no problem as long as you have the correct or above postage. Wait for smiles…..

Found this idea here and yes I like to do art projects geared towards kids that is simple and not to involved and time consuming; I am always running late. Thanks for viewing and let me know what you think or if this inspires you.  More ideas here:

    DIY Candy Jar

DIY Candy Jar. From another blog. Very pretty and well done.

Just my own side note: I do not want to deviate from any beauty of another person’s posting and I take no credit for what is repressed here. I actually tried to do my own blog today, but I have moved and it may be a month until I get my own computer back. The library just would not post for some reason. So have some patience; I will do what I am able in the hour alloted for now. Just the thorns of life hindering until I overcome the trials of life once again. Thanks so much. I appreciate all my followers.
